Retreat

In a week or so, the Batch will have its retreat. In view of this, the Council would like to remind you of various obligations that an attendee has to fulfill in order to ensure a good experience for all of us.
  1. FULL PAYMENTS (Php 2 000-) for the event is due tomorrow, Oct. 8. Those who can not conform with this must inform the Council as soon as possible so that some sort of promissory note can be made. The payment must then be made by the morning of the 15th of October so that the person in question can join the retreat. Otherwise, there is a high chance of him/her not being able to participate in it. There will be PCORI Representatives stationed at the caf entrance to receive your payments starting from 1500h to 1700h.
  2. Aside from FULL PAYMENTS, agreement and consent forms must also be submitted by the 15th. Those who have lost their copy may get one from the 2nd floor photocopier. Those who will not comply will be removed from the roster of students going to the retreat. These forms are as essential as, if not more essential than, the payments themselves. There will be PCORI Representatives stationed at the caf entrance to receive your forms starting from 1500h to 1700h.
  3. Official announcements regarding the retreat (roomings, letters, etc) will be made in due time. Please be on standby for these. However, please be informed that any conflicts created by items deemed unnecessary or whatnot (e.g. play scripts, PBP boats, Food Sci "I-have-no-idea-what-you-guys-might-bring-so-yeah"s, and the like) will be resolved immediately.
  4. Palancas are due on the morning of the 15th of October, albeit the Council will start collecting on the afternoon of the 13th. Although this is not a requirement for the attendees, they are still highly encouraged to do so since it's part of making the retreat a more memorable and worthwhile experience. Please make sure that the receiver's FULL GIVEN NAME (yes, kailangan evident ang redundancy...:P) and SECTION are written on the palanca or on the envelope containing it (for sorting purposes, please understand). PLEASE SUBMIT THEM AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. It would be easier for us to sort your letters if you do so. Rest assured, however, that all respect will be given to the privacy of the sender, receiver, and the letter. If you are not convinced, you are free to seal the letter with...I don't know...pseudostratified columnated ciliated epithelial cells or whatever mechanisms you can think of.
For those who do not know how to make a palanca, here are some points to help you in making one:
  • What do you like/appreciate about that person?
  • What do you want to say to that person?
  • What are your wishes for that person?
  • A palanca is a feel-good letter. Try to focus on saying positive things about that person and on how to make him/her, well...big shock...feel good. If you can't refrain from saying negative things, it would be best if you just don't say them at all.
Of course, the points of a palanca are not limited to these. You can add or remove some if you wish it. It's your chance to say to that person everything (positive...as much as possible, dapat positive...:P) that you want to say. Aside from that, there are no rules regarding it's format, with the notable exception of the FULL GIVEN NAME and SECTION of the receiver placed in a conspicuous place. If you want to put your letter inside a can of San Marino Corned Tuna and/or Tuna Paella, although that would be nothing short of deplorable, you can do so. Furthermore, the sky's the limit with regards to the number of palancas you want to write. If you want to write 5 palancas to everybody who's going to attend (that's 1 080 palancas...:P), then by all means, please do so.

The retreat aims to be one of the most enjoyable and memorable events in the year. Let's all make sure that it becomes such by fulfilling the necessary obligations we have on our shoulders.

For any questions, please do feel free to approach any batch officer. We would be very happy to give respond to these.

Thank you.
