Writings

It is the custom among many historians to distinguish between historic and prehistoric periods in the evolution of human society.
By the former we mean to say history is based on written records. By the latter, we mean to say it's the record of man's achievements before the invention of writing.

*This distinction is not altogether satisfactory because it suggests that human accomplishments before they were recorded in characters or symbols representing words or concepts (pre-historic) were not important.

However, nothing could be farther from the truth.

---> The foundations of many of the great accomplishments of modern technology and even of social and political systems were laid before human beings could write.

Hence, whole period of man's life on earth should be regarded as historic, and that the era before the invention of writing be designated by some term such as "preliterate".

The records of preliterate societies are NOT books, manuscripts, but tools, weapons, fossils, utensils, carvings, paintings, and fragments of jewelry and ornamentation.

*artifacts= are often just as valuable as the written words in providing knowledge of a people's deeds and modes of living.

HUMAN HISTORY divided into two: Age of Stone and Age of Metals

Age of Stone- it is identical with the Preliterate Age or the period before the invention of writing.
- Paleolithic/Neolithic = each takes its name from the type of stone tools and weapons characteristically manufactured during the period.
- Paleolithic= implements were commonly made by chipping pieces off a large stone or flint and using the core that remained as a hand ax or fist hatchet.
- Neolithic= witnessed the supplanting of chipped stone tools by implements made by grinding and polishing stone.

Age of Metals- coincide with the period of history based on written records.

*Preliterate Age- covered at least 95 percent of man's existence and did not come to an end until about 5000 BC

*Age of Metals- practically coincides with the history of civilized nations.

1. PROM

+ Tentative date: February 5, 2010, Saturday

+ Conflict with the achievement test which is on the Wed. after that, so this is still tentative.

+ People suggested na i-move to a week before, right after YMSAT week, like last year, but it might be more hassle.

+ Places na pinagpipilian: Wack Wack and Glass Gardens.

If you have any more suggestions, please tell us ASAP! Make sure that your suggestions meet the budget. Please also take note of the ammenities that should be included in the total payment. If ever you have a place to suggest, also take note that the place should be able to accommodate

500 people.

+ Payment: P1,500-P2,000. WE WILL NOT EXCEED P2,000.

Please take note na kaya nagmahal, (technically, it's only mga P500 per person lang dapat) is because we're also paying for the seniors (by tradition, seniors don't pay anything because they also have to pay for their grad ball and stuff) and teachers and the teachers' friends.

2. PROM COMMITTEE

+ I already gave the list of members of the prom comm from Cesium to Jeks but if you still want to join, tell me asap. You must have a good acad standing and COMMITMENT.

3. BATCH SHIRT

+ 2 Shirt designs will be sold. You are required to buy AT LEAST ONE, but you're encouraged to buy both, especially for the parents.

+ Please submit shirt designs (max of 2 entries per student)

+ Designing is not limited to the students so if you know any designer of creative person who can design for us, please let him/her design.

+ Colors: Base color is Red (so the whole shirt is color red). The design should contain 3 colors, including red. So that's (1) red, (2) another color, and (3) another color.

+ Designs: One of the designs should be 'adult-friendly' because we should also consider the parents who would also buy the shirts.

+ Deadline: July 16, 2010 because it should be ready by our Family Day on Sept 4, 2010.

+ Prize: P1000 or P1000+ PER WINNING DESIGN.

4. BATCH FUNDS

+ PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MONDAY IS COLLECTION DAY. If you think you can't commit to this, pay in advance like, P100 for 4 weeks! Wala na dapat excuse next time unless talagang

urgent.

If you still don't know, we had negative class funds because of the English handouts, then we have debts from other classes because of the plants. And we have to pay P150 WEEKLY for the batch funds.

Treasurer should also email Sir Nat a financial report EVERY SATURDAY until due time.
